Highlights

Teacups for Japan  6th Grade

Picture
Objective:
Sculpt Japanese inspired Teacups out of clay to sell as a fundraiser to support the rebuilding of Japan.  Students will have the option to make two pinch pot tea cups - one for themselves and one to donate, or donate both.

Observation Drawing  7th Grade

Objective:
Draw from observation by demonstrating new techniques to make objects look real.

Logo Design 5th Grade

Students will be at different stages, some will be more aware of their thought process than others.  Beginning to establish their own identities, students at these ages may find it useful to draw upon personal experiences and activities.  The “Logo Design” allows the opportunity to look at symbols that represent an individual.  Students will be able to decipher commercial business logos and use those examples as a starting point to decode their personal symbolic images.

Toy Design  7th Grade

Design a toy that will indicate to others something unique about your personality.

Expressive Portraits 6th Grade

Practice expressing moods and emotions.  During this age when experiencing dissatisfaction with art making is common, this exercise helps move away from the “It doesn’t look real” into “How it can feel real”

Animal Quilt  Pre-Kindergarten

Pre-Kindergarten looked at animal pictures to create their own animal.  Other grades did similar projects, where each culminated in their own class quilt.  1st & 3rd grade looked at their illustrations of their imaginary creatures and brought them together into Creature Quilts.  While 2nd grade Made their friends' animals.

Friendship Stories 2nd Grade

Describe through your story and painting what happened.

Chesapeake Treasure  8th Grade

Support the Back River Restoration Committee to bring awareness to the little problems facing the entire Chesapeake Bay, by using recyclables as art media.    

Paper Creature Story  3rd Grade

Create an illustrative story using recycled handmade paper as a creture body.

Altered Books 8th Grade

Recycle a used book by altering it into a transformed artist book that tells something about your identity.

Counting Through Art
Kindergarten

Picture
Kindergarteners are learning to count and conceptualize symbols in the real world.  Using play reinforces learning by making it easier to visualize quantity in the actual world and practice verbal skills by counting out loud.  Molding a creature out of Play Dough will make the process of manipulating Play Dough meaningful to the students, they will want to learn how to mold the Dough to attain the character they want for the creature.  They will experience how their actions upon the Dough changes how it looks.  

Equivalent Relationships 5th Grade

Objective:  Students will measure the relationships between items with fractions that identify relationships between parts of a whole.  
Student will know things in nature relate to one another in size and shape.

Creature Life Story 1st Grade

Think of an Imaginary Creature and build a story that will describe the creature’s spirit and interests.

Recycled Smart City 4th Grade

Build a mock up for a Smart City, using recycled materials, that will educate others on the reasons you believe your city could be better than a real city that you know of.
