Paper Creature Story 3rd Grade

Objective: 
Create an illustrative story using recycled handmade paper as an animal body.

Lesson 1

Daily Art Problem:
Make new paper out of old recycled shredded paper to use as a body for animal story.

Concepts:
Students will know how paper is made and where it comes from.

Skills:
Students will be able to make their own paper by hand

Assessment:
Each student will have made a few pieces of paper to choose from for their animal body.

Lesson 2

Daily Art Problem:
Collage your paper into a drawn setting for your animal story.

Concepts:
Students will know how collage adds texture in art.

Skills:
Student will be able to collage elements together to add texture to their animal story illustrations.

Assessment:
Students will have drawn, in pencil, a setting for their collaged animal.

Lesson 3

Daily Art Problem:
Use watercolor to paint the setting for your animal story.

Concepts:
Students will know how to mix colors.

Skills:
Students will be able to paint using watercolor to add color to their illustrations.

Assessment:
Students will have used watercolor to fill in their illustration.

Lesson 4

Daily Art Problem:
In a few sentences write a short story for your illustration.

Concepts:
Students will know how language can be used to describe a visual story.

Skills:
Students will be able to write short stories for their animals.

Assessment:
Using complete sentences and correct spelling, stories will: describe the animals name, where it lives, what it does for fun, or what it eats.
