Objective
Draw from observation by demonstrating new techniques to make objects look real.

Lesson 1 Contour “Art Supplies Still Life”
Art Problem:
Use you whole page to draw the contour lines of the art objects you see.
Guiding Questions:
What does it mean to observe? When you observe something, you look at it very closely. How can we be good observers? We can look at something very closely and carefully. Take notice of the details in the edges of objects.
Supplies:
Art objects for still life: scissors, watercolor, glue, crayon box, paint brushes etc.
Construction paper mat for still life
China crayon, White Drawing paper
Contour Prezi
Rationale:
Most adolescence are comfortable drawing with pencil, but the task here is they cannot erase and must continue using the same drawing they started. It will be difficult, some students will be mad they cannot erase.
Vocab:
Contour is a French words meaning outline.Contour Drawing is a continuous line drawing.
Assessment:
Did they only use contour lines?
Did they span the drawing to the whole page? Or did they draw in a tiny corner?

Lesson 2 Vine Charcoal “Fruit Still Life”
Art Problem:
Show volume in your drawing by blending and rubbing vine charcoal to draw the Fruit Still life.
Guiding Questions:
What shadows do you see?
Where do things overlap or go backwards in space by getting smaller?
How can I use my hand and/ or an eraser as a tool to adjust my shading to show volume?
Supplies:
Vine charcoal, Erasers, White drawing paper
Vase, fruit and construction paper for still life.
Rationale:
Student at this age are ready to tackle complicated and sophisticated drawing issues involving considerations such as the top, side, and bottom of objects to show volume.

Motivation:Ice Cream sandwiches prize for being on task and demonstrating good craftsmanship
Rationale:
To continue with observational drawing skill, looking at details. Drawing the ice cream look alike will be more exciting that hopefully will engage students.
